Sound effects

Hello there,
I was wondering whether any new sounds will be added to coincide with the various effects, i.e. superman. I imagine it would be fairly easy to extract some sounds from the film, as was done for the ambient code sound present in the screensaver.

Are there any plans for this type of change, or am I dreaming? Also, I wondered about a slower ambient sound for the code, one not so high in tempo.

Cheers,

Hi Flattery,

yes, I am going to add more sounds in future.
I am not sure wheather to slow down the ambient sound, and how exactly to do this, but I'll keep this advice in mind for future.

I had a thought for the ambient sound.
Perhaps certain sounds could be triggered by the different phases of tracers -- a sound for when the tracer begins to write (fades in), a sound when the tracer is fully illuminated, and a sound when the tracer has written and is beginning to fade again.

However, I'm not a programmer, so I've no idea how complicated this would be.

Just food for thought :)

I forgot something in my previous post:
The sounds could also be triggered by rotators. For any given number of rotators active on the screen, X number will trigger a sound.

Well this wouldn't be difficult for a programmer.
But we would need someone to create all these little samples of sound.

Currently there is just one simple loop.
The volume is set to: number_of_tracers_visible / number_of_screen_collumns.
And the sound is stereo-positioned. For example if there is single tracer falling down in leftmost collumn, then the sound should be played only in left speaker.

I'm fairly busy for the time being, but I should be able to put together some samples from the films. Unfortunately I won't be able to extract any audio straight from the DVD, but I can re-sample it and clean it up with Sound Forge. It may be a while but I'll see if I can isolate some sounds as candidates.

I just had another thought for sound additions -- if the keyboard is enabled, and a key is pressed (provided that the key is not bound to an effect), it'd be neat if it played the "beep" of an Operator's keyboard. :)

Anyway, I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,

If you could spend some time on this, it would be great!
Adding beeps to keys won't be difficult. In fact I have this in my TODO list already.

So I was able to get my hands on a soundfile of code loop.

Here's the link to the original:

Here it is after I toyed with it:

This is a great sound sample -- I can adjust the time span of playback and it doesn't sound at all strange. Keep in mind this is a very, very rough draft. I still have a lot I want to do with these sounds.

Just a sample :)

Cheers,
Flattery

Well, unfortunately none of my download managers can download the file :-(
If you can manage to make the files smaller than 200kB, then you can just e-mail them to me.

I'll see what I can do about that -- shouldn't be an issue.

Please send me an e-mail here so I have your address:

Did those sounds reach you, Tringi?

Re: Sound effects

Yes, they did.
Sounds interestring, but I thought you were to divide it into many small samples...

Re: Sound effects

Yes, that's still in the works. I'm still trying to get other viable samples to break down into individual sounds. The one I sent seems to be the best one, at the moment -- so I'll use that as the master sample for now.

I'll post once I've made some progress.
